The Shirt Shop has been providing traditional clothing with all the elements of current styles since 1979. Store owner and founder, Charles Spurlin, opened the business with one principle in mind: offer premium products that people love and provide exceptional customer service to everyone who passes through the doors. For 43 years, Charles, his wife Laura, and their expert staff operated The Shirt Shop with that founding philosophy. In February 2022, Charles sold the store to Bethany Triplett, an employee who worked with him for 8 years. Now, in addition to our historic brick-and-mortar location in beautiful downtown Tuscaloosa, we’re proud to offer premium products here on the website to our many customers from all around the U.S.A. History of The Shirt Shop
Charles founded The Shirt Shop in August of 1979 during his last year at The University of Alabama. Needing the funding to get going, he used his mother's signature to borrow $5,000 from a local banker and then ventured out in the clothing business. From its original location in downtown Tuscaloosa, The Shirt Shop began cultivating a customer base around town built on providing top of the line traditional clothing while attending to the individual needs of each customer. As the company grew, so did the need for a larger space, and in 1999 The Shirt Shop relocated to its current home at 525 Greensboro Avenue. As intertwined with downtown Tuscaloosa as The Shirt Shop is, the building that it calls home is as much a part of town as maybe anything else currently standing. Construction on the building’s basement began in 1830 with fieldstone pulled from the banks of the Black Warrior River, and today we call the building home in its beautifully finished form, next door and around the corner from all of downtown's premier locations. We look forward to serving our customers, here and in downtown Tuscaloosa, for many more years with the commitment to provide premium clothing and unmatched service.
